After the inauguration of the road Orgãos - Pedra Badejo last month, the Millennium Challenge Account - Cape Verde (MCA-CV) concluded the road Assomada/Chã de Tanque/Rincão, which will be inaugurated next Saturday, July 18, by the Prime Minister, José Maria Neves.

The infrastructure opens new opportunities for the economy of the island of Santiago, especially in the sectors of tourism and fisheries, and will also benefit directly seven communities in the Municipality of Santa Catarina, which will, from now, solve accessibility issues during the rainy season.

Funding from MCA-CV allowed the construction of a modern infrastructure with 15.6 kilometers long, with 6 meters of roadway between Assomada and Chã de Tanque and 5 meters between Chã de Tanque and Rincão. Drainage system, vertical signs, pavement painting and new plants are also part of the infrastructure. As usual, an awareness campaign regarding HIV/AIDS was implemented for workers and communities along the road, and an environment monitoring plan was also implemented.

The works, for a total amount of 361 million Capeverdean Escudos, were executed by the contractor Monte Adriano, Engenharia e Construção, SA with supervision of the Louis Berger Group, Inc.
